IN-PERSON CEU Workshop | The Role of the Sacroiliac (SI) Joint in Low Back Pain

Cynthia, has a degree in physical education, studied surgical nursing and graduated from two massage school programs. She founded the Western Institute of Neuromuscular Massage Therapy, and was appointed honorary clinical professor at the University of California-Irvine Medical School in 2003. Currently, she is advanced program developer and instructor at the National Holistic Institute, as well as a past president of AMTA.

This in-person continuing education workshop will address the most common reason clients seek Massage Therapy – low back pain. Pain which may originate from the Sacroiliac Joint, (SI Joint) is most likely more common than reported due to the challenges of localizing symptoms and referred pain patterns. SI Joint pain can refer to the buttocks, lower lumbar region, groin, and lateral thigh. Those that are experiencing SI Joint Dysfunction describe difficulty getting out of deep seated chairs, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time, climbing stairs, and may also experience numbness and tingling in the leg.

You will learn neuromuscular therapy techniques to re-educate the neuromuscular pattern due to myofascial pain and dysfunction by utilizing orthopedic assessment, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy, PNF techniques, and multi-directional deep transverse friction.
